My essay “Looking for Richard Hugo in White Center” was published in The Writers’ Workshop Review, an online literary magazine, in January 2018. I called the essay “Finding Richard Hugo in White Center” because I wrote it in response to another writer’s blog article titled “Searching for Richard Hugo in White Center,” but the publisher liked “Looking for Richard Hugo…” In any case, the essay is an exploration of the literary and cultural history of Hugo’s hometown, White Center, Washington, and its future as it undergoes gentrification.
